Citizenship, Tax Residency and Tie Break Rules

Legal Resources Centre is organizing a seminar on citizenship by investment, tax residency and tax benefits with a focus on Cyprus legal and taxation framework. The seminar will concentrate on the concepts of citizenship, domicile and tax residency and explore their importance from both a tax and succession planning perspective. It will also explore the planning considerations for clients with an international estate and the impact of succession rules and double tax treaties in and with different jurisdictions.
Seminar Cyprus citizenship by investment, residency and tax benefits is the go-to-event for those looking for: Freedom of movement within Schengen Area and the Tax efficient structuring of their personal affairs and businesses.
This seminar is addressed to accountants, lawyers and other professionals who are working in practice or industry.
The learning aims of this workshop, will be satisfied by enabling participants to:
- Understand the basic concepts and principles of the citizenship by investment, and how Cyprus Citizenship can be obtained;
- Understand the basic concepts and principles of the Domicile and Tax Residency;
- Understand how Domicile and Tax Residency are affecting the tax status of an individual;
- Be able to apply the principles covered to practical scenarios
The seminar aims to provide a practical environment in which the aforementioned concepts can be applied to hypothetical situations, thus enabling them to advise clients and colleagues on citizenship and residency aspects.
Mrs. Annamaria Vassiliades, Advocate (Republic of Cyprus), Solicitor (England & Wales)

Annamaria Vassiliades joined Christodoulos G. Vassiliades & Co LLC in September 2015. She is a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales and Managing Associate lawyer in the Corporate Department of the firm. Annamaria’s expertise includes corporate and commercial, specialising in UK, Cyprus and Offshore company formations, shareholder agreements and non-disclosure agreements and has advised entrepreneurs and businesses mainly from the CIS region, particularly Russia and Ukraine. She has also assisted in a number of significant corporate transactions and corporate restructurings both in the UK and in CIS countries. Annamaria has an LLB Law degree from the University of Buckingham, an LLM from University College London and an LPC Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Law (London Moorgate) where she studied her Legal Practice Course. Languages: Greek (mother-tongue), English, French and has basic knowledge of Spanish and is currently learning Russian.
Mr. Pantelis Karonias, Head of Indirect Tax Department
Pantelis Karonias BSc FCCA ADIT has a BSc in Accounting from the University of Cyprus, and during his studies he was awarded with many distinctions including the First Prize for the best academic performance. He is a Fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and he is a holder of the Advance Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT Qualification) which is awarded by the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He is also a Certified Trainer of Vocational Training by the HRDA. Pantelis has over 17 years of experience in Cyprus VAT and Taxation, EU VAT matters and decisions of the European Court of Justice, UK Taxation and International Taxation. He is also an examiner for a Global Professional Body and he has written a number of tax/VAT syllabuses and articles. Pantelis is also an accomplished and well experienced lecturer. He lectures taxation for the papers of ACCA, ACA and he has also presented various in-house and open seminars concerning taxation with emphasis on international taxation, tax planning and VAT.
Mrs. Eleni Sofocleous (BSc FCCA) Senior Tax Manager at INTERTAXAUDIT
Eleni is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) and she is a holder of a BSc with First Class Honours in Accounting and Finance from the University of Southampton (UK).During her studies she was awarded with the UK Inland Revenue Tax Prize. She has more than 18 years of tax experience in a big-4 accounting firm. She has extensive exposure to international multinational companies, including structuring of conglomerate international groups, consisting mainly of high-profile transportation and logistics groups, shipping groups and oil & gas groups, and leading due diligence projects of M&A. Eleni is also well experienced presenter and has attended various conferences and workshops (both in Cyprus and abroad). She has presented numerous open and in-house seminars concerning taxation, with emphasis in Advanced International Structuring and Tax for Shipping, as well as development of soft skills and leading teams courses. Eleni is a member of the Shipping Committee of The Institute of Certified Chartered Accountants(ICPAC).
